Ryukyu Kempo is a style of martial arts taught in the Karate Quest
school that had its beginning in Okinawa. Okinawa is the main island
in the Ryukyu island group. Kempo means Chinese Hand. This is a newer
way to use the term Tode which was from the term or word Te, an Okinawan
fighting art. Tode was used to show that the Chinese and Okinawan techniques
had blended together. This was before the word karate was created.
Two Okinawan 10th Dan (degree) Grand Masters handed down and taught
us the art of pressure points, through Grand Master, 9th Dan, George
Dillman and Grand Master, 8th Dan, Jack Hogan. Grand Master, 10th Dan,
Hohan Soken, of Orthedox Shorin Ryu, gave Dillman a copy of his family's
secret notes that had information on Tuite and Kyusho Jitsu. The other
master, Sieu Oyata, 10th Dan Ryukyu Kempo, came to the USA and taught
Dillman the arts of Tuite and Kyusho Jitsu.
Tuite and Kyusho Jitsu were the lost arts not taught to anyone outside
the higher warrier class of the Ryukyu Kingdom. Both of these arts use
pressure points, as in the use of acupressure. Tuite is the grapling
of points. Kyusho Jitsu is the striking of points. Only about 5% of
all martial arts taught in ths USA use these arts.
